A CFD SIMULATION OF AIRFLOW DISTRIBUTION AROUND AIR-COOLED CHILLERS FOR OPTIMAL PLACEMENT

Mennatullah Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Hafez;

Abstract

Air-flow distribution around packaged rooftop air-cooled chillers has been studied using a CFD model developed in ANSYS® 19.0. The objective of the study is to optimize the placement of the three chillers by investigating the following parameters: the effect of placing a shield, wind speed, wind direction, distance between chillers, and the height of shield which is usually applied to block rain and reduce the impact of the sun's rays. The wind speed was varied from 0.1 to 3 m/s. The wind direction was considered as either parallel or perpendicular to the chillers, the distance between chillers was varied from 1 to 3 m, and the height of the shield was varied from 4 to 9 m.
