Abstract

Induction of labor should be used in the most efficient way Ipossible that will result in a favorable obstetric outcome with minimum fetal and maternal morbidities.
The Bishop score helps delineate patients who would be most likely to achieve successful induction. The duration of labor is inversely correlated with the Bishop score a score that exceeds 8 describes the patient most likely to achieve a successful vaginal birth. Bishop scores of less than 6 usually require that a cervical ripening method be used before other methods.
The reasons why pregnant women are interested in using complementary therapies to ripen the cervix or induce labour, or both, is an important question and needs to be answered when evaluating new options of care women may be more accepting complementary therapy and natural remedies as they are more safe and have less side effects.
Black cohosh, latin names: Cimicifuga recemosa, is a perennial plant member of the buttercup family that is native to North America. Black cohosh was originally used by native American peoples in the treatment of many conditions, including gynecologic disorders as dysmenorrhea and induction of labor and musculoskeletal complaints as arthritis and muscle pain.
