STUDIES ON THE MORPHOLOGICAL VARIETIES OF DERMATOPHYTES ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT FACTORS
NAHED MOHAMED EL-MOKHTAR SALEM;
Abstract
This study was carried out on a total of 35 strains related to 7 species of dermatophytes. These strains were isolated from different animal and human sources. These sources were Cairo Hospital for Skin Diseases (El-Hood EI-Marsoud Hospital), Out patient Clinic of Dermatology Department Faculty of Medicine Ain-Shams University, and the Veterinary Hospital in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Cairo University.
The dermatophytes used in the current studies were
. Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton violaceum, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum
canis, Microsporum gypseum and Epidermophyton floccosum.
The main objectives of the current research were to study the micro and macro morphological characteristics of different strains cultured on Standard media Sabouraud's Dextrose Agar ( SDA ).as well as Potato Dextrose Agar ( PDA } ; Sabouraud's NaCl- Agar (SDA_NaCI); Borelli's Lactritmel Agar (BLA ); Bromo-Cresol Purple Milk Dextrose Agar (BCP) ; Dermatophytes Test Media (DTM) and
Christensen's Urea Agar (CUA). As well as on different environmental
• conditions e.g. variation of incubation time, C02 tension and
concentration of carbohydrates in the media.
The macro morphological characteristics of the colonies were examined from different aspects as regard to rate of growth whether
