Estimating the Effectiveness of Municipal Solid Waste Recycling Target in Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy (Econometric Study)

Abstract

This study examines the importance of Municipal Solid Wastes recycling in Egypt. It addresses such issue through examining the assigned target in Egypt’s sustainable development strategy 2030. When handled and managed in an appropriate manner, the adverse environmental and health impact of Municipal Solid Wastes can be reduced greatly. Hence, integrating municipal solid wastes in a country’s overall development scheme can play a crucial role in reserving the country’s natural resources and ensuring a sustainable growth for the overall Municipal Solid Waste sector. The main findings of this study proved that the assigned target was high according to the estimated recycling determinants. Hence, the main recommendation is that setting a separate target for Municipal Solid Waste recycling for each governorate according to its own conditions shall be better as to promoting higher recycling activity.
