Color Reproduction of PEEK material veneered with IPS E-max and visio-lign and composite blocks with different thicknesses

Abstract

Advancement in modern dentistry allowed the introduction of
Metal-free materials such as PEEK which is a biocompatible material that
can also be used to replace metallic-core materials and can be veneered
with different veneering materials.
The increase in demand for achieving the best esthetics in dentistry
has led to an increase in the use of different types of veneering materials in
order to achieve the best esthetics possible.
The final color of the veneering material is influenced by the
thickness of the veneering restoration as well as the material itself,
depending on the amount of light scattering and reflection. Therefore,
shade selection of thin veneering restoration is considered a challenge.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of two thicknesses
of different veneering material on color reproduction of PEEK.
Sixty samples were done in this study; the samples were divided into
three main groups according to their veneering material.
Group A: PEEK material veneered with IPS E-max CAD (n=20).
Group B: PEEK material veneered with Visio-lign resin
material(n=20).
Group C: PEEK material veneered with HIPC(n=20).
Each group was then divided into two sub-groups according to
veneering material thickness.
Subgroup I: veneering material with 0.3 mm thickness(n=10).
Subgroup II: veneering material with 0.5 mm thickness(n=10).
