Phytochemical and Biological Studies on Certain Plants Belonging to Family Fabaceae
Mahmoud Aly Mansour Aly;
Abstract
Family Fabaceae is widely distributed all over the globe, and is the third-largest land plant family in terms of number of species, with about 751 genera and about 19500 known species (Christenhusz and Byng 2016). The genus Adenanthera comprises 13 species distributed from tropical and subtropical counties (Lewis 2005). Adnenthera pavonina is commonly known as red wood and red-bread tree. It was used as traditional herbal medicine in dysentery, hemorrhages, GIT disturbance and as anti-inflammatory agent in gout (Moniruzzaman et al. 2015). A. pavonina is also called a food tree because its seeds and leaves are often consumed by people (Nwafor et al. 2017).
The present study was divided into two parts:
Part I: Investigation of the biological activities of A. pavonina leaves extract.
This includes:
1. In vitro biological activity
Cytotoxic activity
Anti-inflammatory activity
Anti-diabetic activity
2. In vivo gastroprotective activity
In vivo gastroprotective pilot study of A. pavonina leaves fractions.
In vivo gastroprotective activity of the dichloromethane soluble fraction of A. pavonina leaves methanol extract (APD)
