Abstract
As illustrated in the previous sections, there are many different automation and optimization methodologies for analog integrated circuits. They started by the knowledge-based approach and it is succeeded initially, because of the short execution time. However, the research didn't go further about it because of the non-optimality of the results and the difficulty of updating the knowledge base. On the other side, a lot of research effort was done in the last few years regarding the optimization-based approach. However, there is no single method or algorithm that can be applied in all cases. Finally, automation and optimization using gm/ID method received an intensive research effort as shown in sec. 2.3. It can provide the designer with a full insight of different design trade-offs, in addition to the ability of having a complete automated design and optimization flow with a short execution time.
