EVALUATION OF RECTAL FINDINGS WHEN COMPARED WITH THE HORMONAL ASSAY OF PROGESTERONE IN CATTLE

Abstract
This work comprised study of: -
I. Necessity of combining rectal palpation and blood progesterone assay and the degree of independence of each method in diagnosis of genital organs in health and disease.
2. The relation of some genital affections and their serum progesterone profiles.
3. The influence of late Iuteal progesterone administration before insemination on conception in repeat breeding cows.
4. The influence of administration of, (a) oxytocin and (b) cortisone during pregnancy recognition period. of estrous cycle on blood progesterone levels and conception rate.
The work was carried out on 73 dairy Holstein cows belonging to one of the Military Farms. Six groups of cows were used in the study, constituted of - (I) 16 cycling non-pregnant cows,
(2) 21 pregnant cows representing each month of gestation, (3) 11 cows with postpartum genital affections,
(4) 5 cycling cows with a history of repeat breeding,
