Assessment of Patterns of Exposure to Physical Punishment and its Effect on Autistic Child

Rania Mohy Hamouda Raslan;

Abstract

Physical punishment is associated with poorer academic achievement, lower IQ, poorer performance on standardized achievement tests, poorer adjustment to school, and poorer self-esteem. Several studies had linked exposure to physical punishment with poorer performance on intellectual tasks (Giarelli & Gardner, 2012). The presence of emotional support for parents, or parents providing extra intellectual stimulation to their autistic children, did not remove this effect (Berzenski & Yates, 2013).
This study aimed to assess the patterns of exposure to physical punishment and its effect on autistic child.
Research Question:
1. What are the parents' patterns of punishment (physical, non-physical) toward their autistic children?
2. What is the effect of punishment on autistic children?
The subject and methods of the current study was illusterated under the following four designs:
I. Technical Design
II. Operational Design
III. Administrative Design
IV. Statistical Design
