STUDY OF RELATIVE CONTRIBUTION OF FIBER PROPERTIES IN YARN QUALITY

Abstract
The present investigation was carried out at Faculty of Agriculture (Saba Basha), Alexandria University to study the effect of fiber properties on yam quality as the follow:
1- Fiber propertis as affected by cotton varieties and grades.
2-Yarn characters as affected by cotton varieties and grades.
3.Simple correlation and partial regression analysis between yam characters and some fiber properties.
Six commercial Egyptian cotton varieties were used in the current study. These varieties were extea long staple (E.L.S) and long staple (L.S). It represented by Giza77 and Giza70 (E.L.S), Giza86, Giza89, Giza80 and Giza83 (L.S) for season 1998/1999. The origin of these varieties were as the follows:
• Giza 77: an extra long staple variety (E.L.S), its fiber length was about
34.7 mm.
• Giza 70: an extra long staple variety (E.L.S), its fiber length was about
35.1 mm.
• Giza 86: the long staple variety (L.S), its fiber length was about 32.5 mm.
• Giza 89: the long staple variety (L.S), its fiber length was about 31.6
mm.
• Giza 80: the long staple variety (L.S), its fiber length was about 30.2
mm.
• Giza83: the long staple variety (L.S), its fiber length was about 29.8
mm.
