PHOTOPHYSICAL AND PHOTOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON SOME STYRYLBENZOXAZOLE DERIVATIVES

Hayam Mohammed Mohammed Khatab;

Abstract

CHAPTER/:

This chapter contains a general introduction about the photochromism and the trans-cis photoisomerization process as well as a literature survey on the photopysical and photochemical properties of stilbenes and their aza analogous. The importance of the benzoxazole derivatives in biological and chemical systems has been also presented.

CHAPTER/I:

It includes the experimental section which describes the used techniques such as, methods of preparation of the compounds that utilized in the present thesis, solvents used and the different methods for spectral measurements. It also, includes the methods of calculations of fluorescence and photoisomerization quantum yields.

CHAPTER III:

In this chapter, the spectroscopic properties of the investigated compounds were studied in different organic solvents at room temperature. The fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes were also measured for some derivatives. The substituent and solvent effects on the photophysical characteristics were discussed. It was found that the substituents and solvents affect strongly the absorption and emission spectra in a manner characteristic for the intramolecular charge transfer intraction.
