Arthrocentesis in.treatment of temporomandibular joint internal derangement: Diptofos versus Sodium Hyaluronate

Abstract


Many procedures have been devel oped to try to all eviate the pain and functional complaints of patients suffering from temporomandibular joint internal derangement.



Th i s study was designed to compare the effect of Diprofos versus Sodi um Hyaluronate in conjunction wi th arthrocentesis 111 treatment of temporomandibul ar jo i nt internal derangement.


This study was conducted on 20 patients selected from those attending the out-patient Clinic i n Oral Surgery Department, Faculty of Oral and Denta l Medicine, Cairo University.



The patients selected were suffering from clicking, pam and tenderness i n temporomandibu lar region as well as l imi ted mouth opening with absence any radiographic evidence suggestive to abnormalities in the bony articulating surfaces. Superior repositioning spl ints were fabricated and fitted to a ll pati ents two weeks before arthrocentesis, patients who improved were continued on the spl int and hence excluded from our study group. Those wh o did not improve or showed unsatisfactory improvement were randomly d i vided into two eq ua l groups. Arthrocentesis appl ied in both groups with Diprofos
i ntra-articular ir ection in group one and Sodium Hyaluron ate intra arti cu l ar injecti on in group two by the end of the procedure.
