IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION ON THE CHEMICAL AND PHYSICO-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF STABILIZED SOIL
SAYDA RAW ASH REFAI ZIDAN;
Abstract
The soil is contaminated by continuous unseeing leakage of the liquid wastes. The movement of liquids is mobilized by the soil stratification, permeability and it is directed by the ground topography. According to the environmental factors (temperature. humidity), aggressive and progressive attack for the underground structures will happens. Site contamination can be never mitigated and observed under the absence of field measurements early detecting the problem. Thus, the symptoms of
the pollution badly reflected on the human health or the building performance.
From the socioeconomic point of view. the pre-construction measures are the optimum solution to protect the environment and the valuable heritages this researcl1 concerned with this point by using soil stabilization as a method for soil protection.
Extended research program was proposed in order to investigate the behavior of three different soil origins before and after treatment. The soils obtained from Port Said. Helwan and 6-0ctober city, were chemically stabilized using certain types of cementacious materials such a, ordinary Portland (OPC), sulphate resisting cement (SRC). Cement Kiln Dust (CKD) and CKD with additive of silica fume (SF). Impact of exposing the cured specimens for two polluted water. mostly found due to human activities. on the geomechanical and physicochemical characteristics of the treated compacted soil specimens was experimentally studied Tap water ,domestic sewage, and El-Manzalah lake water was also examined as a base for comparing all compacted specimens of Port-Said soil, Helwan soil and 6-0ctober soaked for.a period time.
Results show that the soil.compositions, the soaking Environments and the duration of soaking are responsible of the strength changes. The previous researches indicated that, the cement stabilization can lead to adverse unpredictable results especially :for long term performance. The durability study shows that SRC is more resistance .for a long duration. CKD is suitable for stabilizing a tine grains soil. Silica fume is a good accelerated the early hydration of cement kiln dust.
