Histological assessment of the safety of clindamycin therapy on the liver and kidney during childhood in mice
Manar Ali Abd El-Ghani Bashandy;
Abstract
Due to the abuse of antibiotics many practitioners resorted to the use of clindamycin. Clinamycin is a chlorine-substituted derivative of lincomycin. It is antibiotic that elaborated by streptomyces lincolnensis.
The aim of this work was to test the safety of clindamycin therapy when used before puberty (childhood corresponding period).
That is because the inside package leaflet stated that, the safety of
• usage of clindamycin during childhood period was considered to be
uncertain.
Liver and kidney were particularly selected to be examined because the manufacturer of the drug recommended . dosing of this drug with caution in cases of severe renal diseases and \ or severe • hepatic diseases.
In this study, fifty healthy female mice aged 21 days (weaning age) were used. They were divided into three groups:
1- Control group: This group included ten mice that were injected intraperitoneally daily with 1 ml of0.9% normal saline.
2-Experimental group . I = EXP.I or clindamvcin treated group: This group was composed of twenty mice that were injected intraperitoneally daily with clindamycin in a dose of 40 mg \ kg body weight. This scheme was continued for two weeks (from day 21 to day 35).
3-Experimental group II EXP.II (recovery or
• rehabilitation group): This group included twenty mice that were
