Open Reduction of Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis by Means of Surgical Hip Dislocation

Ahmed Mohamed Ashraf;

Abstract

Abstract
Background: Open reduction (OR) of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE); called the modified Dunn’s procedure, has been described in a variety of ways that mostly involve a wedge-shaped osteotomy of the femoral neck with or without complete surgical dislocation of the femoral head through the surgical hip dislocation.
Material and methods: The aim of this study is to provide an updated review of literature on open reduction of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) via the surgical hip dislocation (SHD) approach. Review of the literature was done by using PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, OVID, and Google databases to look for peer reviewed papers using English-language studies and studies translated to English language using the key words. We debriefed the world’s leading minds on the modified Dunn’s procedure (MDP) and presented their perspectives on the past, present, and future of SCFE. We try to highlight the results of the key published articles related to the topic.
