Abstract


The main objective of the research is to shed light on the competitive position of Egyptian onion exports and the most important countries competing in the export of onions during the period (2002 - 2016) in the most important export markets. Designing a Standard Economic Model Analyzing the Structure of Egyptian Exports of Onions. The results show that Egypt has a relatively high comparative advantage of onion exports compared to the rest of the exporting countries with an average of about 18.54 in the period 2012-2016, which indicates that there is an opportunity to expand and increase Egypt's onion exports to the world .A study of the geographical distribution of Egypt's onion exports revealed that the Saudi market ranked first in quantity and value of Egypt's onion exports. Followed by the Russian market in that period. According to the market share, Egypt occupies the first place among the major exporters of onions for the Saudi market and the Russian market, accounting for 62.6% of the Saudi market and about 26.3% of the Russian market. The relative increase in onion production for Egypt compared to the most competitive countries in the Saudi market and the Russian market was also shown. The index of the market penetration of Egyptian onion in these markets indicated that Egyptian exports to these markets could increase. It also shows that Egypt has a competitive comparative price advantage compared to the most competitive countries in exporting onions in the Russian market, as evidenced by the high export price of Egypt in the Saudi market compared to its competitors
It is clear from the value of the indicators of export power and export dependence that Egypt is in second place in the Saudi market, and is in fourth place in the Russian market, the first model of the Egyptian onion crop was also designed. The factors affecting the local consumption of onions were the average per capita income of the Egyptian national income in dollars, the price per kilogram of the Egyptian consumer in dollars, the quantity of exports, and the quantity of production. While the factors affecting the exports of Egyptian onions are the average price of exporting India to the US dollar as one of the most competitive markets , average per capita Egyptian production per kg, implicit variable reflects the impact of the Health & Phytosanitary agreement, The average price of exporting Egypt to the onion of the kilogram in dollars for the Saudi market, while the factors affecting the production of Egyptian onions is the average Saudi per capita of Saudi Arabia's production by the kg in the previous year, The average Egyptian farm price in dollars per kg for the previous year, the average share of the foreign citizen of the Egyptian exports in the previous year.
