Abstract

This research work resulted from collaboration between the North Carolina State University College of Textiles and Ain Shams University Women’s College. The work was expansion of previous published research [1, 2]. The complications associated with the traditional cut and sew was the driving force behind undertaking this research task. The target of the research was to develop a range of finished seamless woven women’s garment with desired size and shape to avoid the numerous steps and disadvantages of the traditional cut and sew processes. To achieve the goal, 83 woven double cloth with different construction parameters that influence finished width shrinkage were woven using a shuttle weaving machine equipped with dobby shedding
system. The 83 tubular woven fabrics were intentionally structured to provide extremely wide range of shrinkage ranging from 6.7 – 48.7%. This allowed the creation of garments with required shape using different fabrics selected from the 83 to provide required dimension along the garment length.
