Effectiveness of Antiphospholipid Syndrome Evidence Based Nursing Guideline on Maternity Staff Nurses' Knowledge and Practice

Abstract


Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a complex autoimmune disorder that increase risk of thromboembolic events that result in various problem for pregnant woman as sever preeclampsia, miscarriage , still birth , preterm labor. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of antiphospholipid syndrome evidence based nursing guideline on maternity staff nurses' knowledge and practice. A quasi experimental research design was used to conduct this study. Setting The study was carried out at antenatal clinic, high risk units, and labor unit at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital. A convenient sample was used to recruit seventy eight maternity staff nurses' working at the previous mention setting. Two tools of data collection were used first was structure interviewing questionnaire, and second tool was observation checklist. The result of the study shows that2.6% of the studied nurses have total satisfactory level of knowledge and competent level of practice regarding caring for pregnant woman with APS pre-implementation of evidence based nursing guideline. While, 94.9% and 96.2% of the studied nurses have satisfactory level of knowledge and competent level of practice regarding caring for pregnant woman with APS immediately post-implementation of evidence based nursing guideline. Finally, there was a highly statistically significant improvement on maternity staff nurses' knowledge, and practice post-implementation of antiphospholipid syndrome evidence based nursing guideline and at follow up (P<0.001).Conclusion and recommendations: The study concluded that antiphospholipid syndrome evidence based nursing guideline had significant effect on improving maternity staff nurses' knowledge and practice. Accordingly, the following recommendation is proposed: Publication and dissemination of antiphospholipid syndrome evidence based nursing guideline in all maternity health services to improve maternity staff nurses' knowledge and practice regarding care for pregnant women's with APS
