Abstract

© 2017 Elsevier Ltd In this work we study the acoustic performance of a new absorbing material composed of waste of sugarcane. This performance is evaluated by the acoustic absorption coefficient. Delany-Bazley, Lafarge-Allard and Johnson-Allard models are used to estimate the absorption coefficient of the studied absorbent. Physical parameters such as flow resistivity, porosity, tortuosity, and characteristic lengths are measured thanks to direct and inverse methods to operate the used models. Indeed, we found that the absorption coefficient is strongly affected by these physical parameters. The choice of the adequate model is made by comparing the measured values of the absorption coefficient with its predicted values by different models. We have also investigated the effect of physical parameters variation on the absorption coefficient. The obtained results proved the good absorbing propriety of the studied material as well as the good agreement between the measured values of the absorption coefficient and predicted ones by the model of Johnson-Allard.
