Abstract

There is no doubt that the virtue of self-control is one of the most important pillars of any development in the society either in the war or the peace. It’s lack of this virtue impacts negatively on the individual and makes him gluttonous to the temptations of life, such as money, power, and then affects others and society as a whole. From this perspective, this paper will discuss the virtue of self-control as a powerful co-operative value for the advancement of the ethics of the individual and the society in the war, and this is by investigating some of dramatic characters in the plays of the Greek tragedian, Aeschylus, to determine the importance of this virtue for characters, who they have it when take decision of the war, and how some characters are affected negatively in the case of their lack of self-control.
This paper will discuss also the concepts of the other co-operative moral values, which have to do with the value of self-control, whether they represent the causes or results, such as: wisdom, prudence, moderation, justice. The study also will include also the competitive values which lead the characters to recklessness and unrestraint in the war, such as: love of power, greed, love of money, love of gain, love of fame, and other negatives which destroy the virtue of restraint inside the human.
