Abstract

DC microgrids operate either in standalone mode or grid-connected mode. In order to control the DC microgrid, the droop control is commonly used. However, voltage deviation as well as the error in current sharing are the main problems associated with the droop method. Conventional rating-based control schemes are developed to overcome the droop technique drawbacks. But, these control schemes do not consider the economic operation of the microgrid. Thus, in this paper a control strategy is proposed to overcome the problems introduced by the droop method and consider the economic operation of the committed distributed generators (DG) in the DC microgrid. The proposed controller is adopted in a distributed scheme to avoid challenges accompanied by the centralized schemes, such as single point of failure. Simulation results provided concludes the effectiveness of the proposed controller to enhance the performance of the DC microgrid.
