Abstract
This paper presents a complete dynamic investigation of switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives. A 6/4 three phases reduced torque ripple SRM drive is simulated on Electromagnetic transients and DC/Power system computer-aided design (EMTDC/PSCAD) software. The motor is modeled using an analytical model that takes into consideration the nonlinearity of the machine. A control algorithm based on torque distribution function (TDF) is used for torque ripple minimization. A Hysteresis Current Controller (HCC) is used to regulate the phase currents. The dynamic characteristics of SRM are revealed through the simulation results which represent waveforms for the phase currents, torque and speed of the motor. © 2005 IEEE.
