ثورة بروكوبيوس ضد الإمبراطور فالنز دراسة تحليلية مفصلة لأحداثها الداخلية

Abstract

تتناول هذه الدراسة ثورة بروكوبيوس Procopius ضد الإمبراطور فالنز Valens عام 365م، متتبعة ما قام به بروكوبيوس من استغلال كل الظروف المناوئة لفالنز (انشغاله بحروب خارجية، وانخفاض شعبيته بين مواطنيه، بل وشراء ولاء قواده). كما تتبعت الدراسة القوي التي قدمت الدعم سواء أكانت داخلية أم خارجية، ومدى تأثيرها لصالح بروكوبيوس في تضخم قوته؛ حتي أنه نصب إمبراطورًا لعدة أشهر. كما تطرقت الدراسة إلي مرحلة المواجهة بين الإمبراطور فالنز وبروكوبيوس، والتي رجحت الكفة لصالح فالنز، لقوة حاشيته التي دعمته علي المستوي النفسي والإداري في أشد حالات استسلامه، كالدور الذي قام به الجنرال أربيتيو في نزوح عدد كبير من قادة جيش بروكوبيوس وانضمامهم لصفوف جيش فالنز؛ مما أثر علي ميزان القوي لصالح فالنز. كما تناولت حرب بروكوبيوس الأخيرة حتي تم خيانته، وتقديمه لفالنز فانتهى الأمر بمقتله، وبيان معاقبة فالنز لكل من قدم الدعم لبروكوبيوس. علي سبيل المثال القوط الغربيون الذين قدموا الدعم العسكري له بإرسال قوة حربية تتألف من ثلاثة ألاف مقاتل، هذا بالإضافة إلي الدعم المعنوي له بإقرارهم بحركته. ونؤكد أن أسباب تلك المساعدة هو رغبتهم في الحصول علي بعض التنازلات من الإمبراطورية الشرقية علي الحدود الرومانية في حال تولي بروكوبيوس حكمها.

This study deals with the revolt of Procopius against Emperor Valens in the year 365 AD, tracing what Procopius did by exploiting all the adverse circumstances of Valens (his preoccupation with foreign wars, the decline of his popularity among his citizens, and even the purchase of the loyalty of his commanders). The study also traced the strength that provided support, whether internal or external, and the extent of its influence in favor of Procopius in the magnification of his power, until he was put as an emperor for several months. The study also dealt with the stage of confrontation between the Emperor Valens and Procopius, which tilted the tide in favor of Valens, due to the strength of his entourage, which supported him at the psychological and administrative level in the most severe cases of his surrender, such as the role that General Arbitio played in the displacement of a large number of commanders of Procopius' army and their joining the ranks of the army of Valens, Impact on the balance of power in favor of Valens. It also dealt with the last war of Procopius until he was betrayed, presented to Valens, and ended up killing him, and a statement of Valens's punishment of everyone who had supported Procopius. For example, the Visigoths, who provided military support to him by sending a war force of three thousand fighters, in addition to the moral support for him by acknowledging his movement. We affirm that the reasons for this assistance were their desire to obtain some concessions from the Eastern Empire on the Roman borders in the event Procopius assumed its rule.
