Abstract


The eight ostraca edited here come from Elephantine and are dated to the 2nd and 3rd centuries. All of them are housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo under the S.R. 18955. The documents are receipts for different taxes: poll-tax (1, 3, 8), assessment for river-guards (2), poll-tax for men who have fled (3), unspecified merismos (4), survey-tax on date-land (5, 7), assessment for watch-towers (6), assessment for statues and busts (6), and trade-tax (8).
