Abstract


The eight ostraca edited here come from Elephantine and are dated to the 1st and 2nd centuries. All of them
are housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo under S.R. 18955. The documents are receipts for different
taxes: monthly trade tax (1, 4), poll tax and δεσμοφυλακία (2, 5), supporting the guards of the harbor (3),
poll tax for those who have fled (5, 8), trade tax (6), and unspecified μερισμοί (7).
