Abstract


The Semantic Function of Exclamation in the Tragedies of Sophocles:
A Study through Psycholinguistics.
Greek tragedy has been associated with the expression of the human soul and the problems it faces, the tragic work warns you not to fall into the same problems as the hero so that you may not have the same destiny. The play begins with a stable life of a hero whose life fluctuates from greatness to destruction, which eventually leads to his downfall. The exclamation was one of the linguistic methods that express the emotions and Intentions of the heroes of the psychological tragedy for anything that might be a surprise or a sadness. The wonder is a denial of something that may be unexpected, a splendor that takes a person when the thing is great.
This study aims to examine the semantic function of exclamation in ancient Greek through Sophocles’ tragedies. Based on the descriptive method, the researcher presented a functional study aimed at demonstrating the semantic role of exclamation in the tragedies of Sophocles through Psycholinguistics.
