DIODE LASER PHOTOCOAGULATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MACULAR LESIONS

Ahmed Baiomy Abd El Wahab;

Abstract

Semiconductor technology has lcd to the development of
gallium aluminium arsenide (Ga Al As) laser diodes which can
emit light in the infrared region of the spectrum(720-890 mm).
diode laser is not absorbed within the
maular leuteal pigment (xanthophyll) . So, the near infrared
diode lascr has been suggested to be the ideal laser for macular
infrared
The near
lesions.
Many studies had demonstrated that infrared diode laser
has the power to penetrate deeply than argon laser as
demonstrated by its effect in the retinal pigment cpithclium and
the choroid.
