Relationship and Inverse Relationship between HCV Treatment by DAA’s and Portal Hypertension in Egyptian Patients with Combined Cirrhosis & Portal Hypertension
Ahmed Abd EL-Aziz EL-Moursi EL-Sayed;
Abstract
CV is responsible for development of chronic hepatitis progressing to fibrosis, cirrhosis, PH and HCC.
Assessment of liver fibrosis can be done by application of both imaging and serum based non-invasive markers based on measuring other elements that correlate with fibrosis in the liver, instead of the “gold standard” invasive liver biopsy.
Measurement of the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) remains the “gold standard to measure portal pressure” but its invasiveness limiting its clinical use. Noninvasive methods to predict the presence of CSPH has gained great interest in recent years because of the relevant implications in patient management.
DAAs has revolutionized the treatment landscape with their efficacy and safety aiming to prevent disease progression and hypothesize an important question. Does viral clearance halting progression of liver disease, and could reverse cirrhosis into lower histological stages regressing the PH and its related complication by the virtue of that PH is a dynamic process?
Answering this question motivating us to assess reversibility and/or improvement of PH in Egyptian patients with HCV related cirrhosis and CSPH after HCV eradication by DAA’s according to (NCCVH) in Egypt and (EASL) protocols.
