Evaluation of the Relationship between Carotid Intima Media Thickness and Coronary Artery Disease in Patients Evaluated by CT Coronary Angiography
Samar Essam Abdul Azziz Mohamed;
Abstract
oronary artery disease (CAD) is associated with high mortality around the world, hypertension, diabetes and
smoking are common risk factors for CAD.
Coronary and carotid arteries are the two most common to be affected by atherosclerosis.
Coronary angiography known to be the gold standard for assessing the severity of coronary atherosclerosis, however this is an invasive method and associated with multiple complications, carotid ultrasonography is noninvasive, accurate and reliable.
We conducted our study on 30 patients 80% were males and 20 % were females aged between 30-70 years by using ECG gated 128 MDCT then ultrasonography examination for CIMT evaluation, Patients were referred for coronary CTA because of known or suspected CAD.
