Assessment And Surgical Correction Of The Long Nose

Amr Ossama Ahmed Mohamed Abdelhamid;

Abstract

Rhinoplasty remains one of the most challenging procedures in facial aesthetics. For a successful rhinoplasty, the surgeon needs to analyze carefully the underlying causes and anatomical abnormalities contributing to the development of the deformity.

The long nose is a challenging deformity to correct. This comes from the fact that it is often multifactorial or secondary to multiple causes. In the pre- operative analysis, the surgeon should analyze the facial proportion and landmarks which include the nasal dorsum, length, tip projection and rotation to accurately identify the underlying cause and plan the surgery accordingly.

In our series we investigated the causes of the long nose and proposed a surgical algorithm for correction. The most common contributing factors for the long nose deformity in the Egyptian population is the lack of nasal tip support, whether due to long weak inferiorly oriented lower lateral cartilages or due to short weak medial crura.
