Factors Affecting Successful In Vitro Fertilization Process

Walaa Fathy El Saied Abd-Elhady;

Abstract

nfertility affects roughly 10% of the world's population. The WHO ranks infertility in the young population as the fifth highest serious global disability. According to the Maternal Health Task Force 2010, 50 million couples worldwide are infertile.
The age of the woman was the single biggest factor affecting the success of an IVF procedure. With a success rate of 60-65%, IVF was most successful for women between the ages of 24 and 35. This was expected, as this is age range when women are at their peak of fertility. As age increases, the success rate droped. This was because the quality and/or quantity of a woman’s eggs reduced as she grew older. The decision made by today’s urban women to delay childbirth to well into her 30s thus played a big role.
