Effect of Laser Treatment Versus Acid Etching on the Color Reproduction and Surface Roughness Using Two Thicknesses of Two Ceramic Materials (In Vitro Study)

Mohamed Ahmed Abulkassem;

Abstract

This research was performed to study the color production and surface roughness of two types of glass ceramics using two thicknesses; leucite based and lithium disilicate glass after two types of surface treatment Laser surface treatment (2.5W Er,Cr:YSGG laser etching and silanation) , acid etching and silanation (9.5 % HF acid etching).
Blocks of IPS e.max and IPS Empress CAD CAM esthetic restorative materials were used to prepare slices of thicknesses 0.3 and 0.5 mm Using IsoMet 4000 diamond saw.
Surface roughness and color parameters were assessed before surface treatments using surface roughness tester (Mitutyoyo Japan) and digital spectrophotometer (Cary 5000 Spectrophotometer).
The samples are then divided into two groups according to the surface treatment and surface treatment was done followed by silanation.
Surface roughness and color parameters were assessed again after the surface treatment, and ΔE was calculated to assess color change.
