Comparing shaping ability and cleaning ability of Fanta, OneCurve, and ProTaper Next Ni-Ti rotary file systems (An in vitro study)

Abstract
This study aimed to compare Fanta, ProTaper Next, and OneCurve rotary Ni-Ti files regarding shaping ability, cleaning ability, and preparation time.
Shaping ability was evaluated via assessment of canal transportation, canal centering ability, and percentage of deviation while cleaning ability was evaluated via assessment of the percentage of smear layer and surface area covered with debris. Preparation time was also recorded. The mesiodistal transportation, centering ability, and percentage of deviation were assessed by comparing pre-and post- instrumentation measurements taken on CBCT images at apical, middle, and coronal thirds, while the canal cleanliness was evaluated using the SEM at three levels (apical, middle, coronal).
Sixty extracted permanent mandibular first molars were used to evaluate shaping, and cleaning ability. Teeth were decoronated at the cement-enamel junction using a diamond disc; then special measures were taken to ensure standardization and reproducibility of CBCT images. After post-CBCT scan teeth were longitudinally split into 2 equal halves to evaluate cleaning efficiency.
Samples were classified into three subgroups (n=20) according to the file system. The result was tabulated and statistically analyzed.
