THE USE OF BIOMARKERS TO PREDICT ATTACKS OF SEVERE BRONCHIAL ASTHMA AND CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE

Abstract


Nowadays, In Egypt, the environment has witnessed an increased level of pollutants; in particularly, air pollutants that worsen the air quality in different governates in Egypt. Current phenomenon of climate change also synergies the effect of air pollution and worsening air quality. All of that could worsen an existing disease condition or trigger negative consequences and increase of the burden of some diseases such as respiratory diseases. Presence of pollutants in the surrounding environment might trigger respiratory attacks that might need hospital care. Some studies suggested the use of inflammatory biomarkers could provide a better understanding for the respiratory disease outcome. This study attempts to adopt that concept of evaluating role of inflammatory biomarkers for asthmatic and chronic obstructive diseases through evaluation the relationship between fibrinogen and c reactive protein levels and the need for hospital care. As an overview, the study revealed that levels of fibrinogen and c reactive protein are significantly higher in asthmatic and CODP group; in addition, the risk of hospitalization might be associated with increased levels of fibrinogen and c reactive protein.
In conclusion, increased levels of fibrinogen, c reactive protein and decreased pulmonary function might be associated with the risk of hospitalization.
