GROWTH ASSESSMENT IN TYPE I (INSULIN DEPENDENT) DIABETIC EGYPTIAN CHILDREN

Abstract
SUMMARY & CONCLUSION
The study included 60 Type 1 diabetic Egyptian children and adolescents of varying age group of the out-patient diabetic clinic. Ain Shams University. Their anthropometric and body indices values have been compared to age and sex matched Egyptian standards of the National Research Center.
All children and adolescents in this study, were subjected
to:
1. Complete history taking as regards: Onset of diabetes, treatment received, dosage of insulin, preparation of insulin, duration of diabetes, family history of diabetes, history of complications associated or any other endocrinal diseases.
2. Thorough clinical examination ofevery case :
• For evaluation of pubertal status according to (Tanner score).
• To detect any physical abnormality or signs of endocrinopathies.
3. Anthropometric measurements including 18
parameters, and 12 body indicies asfollows :
4. Relative Femininity Masculinity (RFM): Bicristal/Biacromial x I 00.
5. Bicristal / Bitrochanteric Ratio :
Bicristal/ Bitrochanteric x I 00.
6. Thoracic Index (T.I.): Thoracic Depth/Thorac. Bread. x I 00.
7. Summation of Skinfolds :
Triceps + biceps + Subscapular + Supracristal Skinfolds.
8. Fat Index (F.l): Subscapular + Triceps.
9. Limbal Index (L.I.): Biceps+ Triceps.
10. Trunkal Index (T.l.): Subscapular + Supracristal.
11. Cephalic Index (C.I.) : Head Breadth/ Head Length x 100.
12. Relative Head Circumference (RHC):
Head Circumference I Ht. x I 00.
4. Mid-Parental height.
5. Bone Age determinations.
6. Laboratory investigations :
• Glycosylated hemoglobin was measured,assessed every
3 months to assess the level of metabolic control, and the mean level of all measurements was available.
