COMPARATIVE STUDY ON DIFFERENT MODELING TECHNIQUES FOR CABLE- STAYED BRIDGES AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR UNDER STATIC LOADS

MAHMOUD SAID AHMED ELNAHLA;

Abstract

This thesis discusses in detail the structural components of cable stayed bridges and the optimum way for modelling them. It presents different methods of modeling a cable stayed bridge to know which model is optimum and is more representative for the bridge. Aswan cable stayed bridge is considered as a case study and modeled by two different methods: spine model and shell model
First, the shell model is adjusted by applying a set of modifications to represent the spine model behavior. Second, and a detailed shell model that has no modifications is then created. Third, a detailed comparison between models is carried out. The comparison included cable pre-tension force and deck straining actions
