Abstract

SUMMARY
HGV infection is more prevalent in the population than HCV. The aim of this work was to study the prevalence of HGV infection, its association with HCV in Egyptian haemodialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients. Also, there will be special reference to patient outcome during study.
Forty-one haemodialysis patients (32 males and 9 females), (twenty-eight were known to be HCV Ab positive), and forty kidney transplant recipients (22 females and 18 males), (sixteen were known to be HCV Ab positive) were picked out to detect HGV env. Ab by ELISA.
Those cases were subjected to:
I-History taking and complete physical examination stressing on the stigmata of chronic liver diseases.
2-Liver function tests including serum Aspartate
aminotransferase, serum Alanine aminotransferase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, semm albumin, and serum globulin and its correlation to HGV infection .
3-Abdominal ultrasonography.
4-Liver biopsy (Whenever indicated).
Seventeen (41.5%) haemodialysis patients and six (15%) kidney transplant recipients were positive for HGV env. Ab.
