IMPACT OF REHABILITATION PROGRAM ON PATIENTS WITH PERMANENT COLOSTOMY

Abstract
SUMMARY
The main objective of rehabilitation of permanent colostomy patients
1S return to his/ her maximal level of independence, psychologically,
socially and physically much as possible.
The current study aimed at, assessing the knowledge, self-care and attitude of colostomy patient, to identify their educational and training needs through implementing an educational rehabilitation program based on collected data and literature review and to evaluate the outcome of educational program, with provision of modern audoivsual aids, such as printing instructional booklets in arabic, using model of the stoma to
demonstrate change of appliance and using poster.
The target population are 50 patients with permanent colostomy who
are attending the outpatient follow-up clinic in National Cancer Institute of
• Cairo and then making with thcm home visiting to complete the program.
Pilot study was intiated, and the same study instrument were tcsted to verify validity of the questionnaire and the observation checklists. Also to explore the needed content to be included into the program.
The study was done and included the following phases :
