Abstract

Summary
Fungi arc capable of invading either normal or immunocompromized hosts producing illcs
Diagnosis of fungal infections depends to a large extent on the clinical data however laboratory methods are also important to establish the clinical diagnosis
Antifungal drugs , being limited in the past mainly to amphotericin B and sulfonamides, are going now to include new members e.g. the irnidiazole & traizole groups
Mycoses (diseases caused by fungi ) have been classified according to the region involved to superficial , cutaneous, subcutaneous and systemic mycoses
Mycetoma ( Madura foot), a subcutaneous mycoses characterized by turnefaction and draining sinuses, is subjected to focusing for methods of clinical diagnosis and methods of surgical & medical treatment

Systemic mycoses are acquired by inhalation of air borne spores and the initial site of multiplication is the lung. Most infections are self-limiting, but serious progressive or
. disseminated disease occurs especially In immunocompromized patients
