Assessment the Role of Non Invasive Biomarkers as an Early Predictors of Mucosal Healing in Ulcerative Colitis Patients Treated with the Biological Therapy

Shaimaa Abdelrahman Ahmed;

Abstract

nflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), which includes Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are chronic, relapsing-remitting diseases that constitute a growing worldwide health burden.
UC is characterized by confluent mucosal inflammation and erosions starting from the anal verge and extending to a variable extent, where patients often complain of diarrhea associated with rectal bleeding, abdominal tenderness, and weight loss. It’s a systemic disease, with extra-intestinal manifestations and symptoms frequently affecting the joints, skin, eyes, and (although less often) the liver, pancreas, or lungs, which can also contribute to morbidity and reduced quality of life.
