SOME HISTOLOGICAL AND HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUCOSA OF THE SMALL INTESTINE IN GOAT

Mohamed Mohamed Atif Kassab;

Abstract

This study was carried out to illustrate the develoment of the mucosa of the small intestin of goat in additon to clarify the ultrastructure of the lining epitheium of the intestine of the fullterm fetus.

For the histological development of the mucosa of the small intestine, embryos of CVRL ranged from 1.5 to 36 em were used. They obtained from Cairo and Kafr-El-Sheikh abattoirs. The specimens were processed to obtain 5-7 micrometers paraffin sections. These sections were stained with Haematoxylin and Eosin, Periodic acid Schiff reagent, Alcian blue, Masson's trichromeas well as silver impregination method.

• For the ultrastructure study of the lining epithelium of the intestine of the full term fetuses (36 em CVRL), five clini=ily ''""'-'Lily

pregnant Balady goats were used. They obtained from Mahlet Massa Station for Reproduction. Specimens were =llected from the fetuses and processed for electron microscopic examination using Jeol electron
microscope in Electron Microsccop center, zagazig University.

The results revealed that, the lining epithelium of the intestine in the early stage of development was formed of stratified epithelium (formed of 2-3 layers of columnar cells). This stratification decreased with the progress of the development till became formed of one layer of
=lumnar cells as the villi were well formed.
