Sara Yehia Mahmoud Aly El-Baghdady;

Abstract

We can infer from the previous chapters that Sustainable Urban Mobility is a solution to the development problems facing Egyptian new cities nowadays and in the forthcoming years. The success of the plans and guidelines adopted by other countries in the world is a great indication that certain tools could be implemented by the government and stakeholders to reach a sustainable urban mobility system.

5.2. Conclusion
In conclusion, new cities should learn from the experiences of other cities when implementing sustainable urban mobility projects and learn the successes and failures, to avoid future failures which can be done through a comprehensive plan for mobility, in the agreement between all relevant stakeholders, the competent authorities and planners of new cities, on the tools and measures that must be applied when planning a transportation system for these cities to achieve sustainability goals with reference to the indicators of the sustainability of urban mobility. Because linking the mobility plan with tools and indicators and choosing the most appropriate projects contributes to the urban development process of New Cities.
The unsustainability of the mobility system affects the development process in new cities because they are not planned to facilitate residents’ access to efficient transportation services. Urban mobility is an environmental challenge facing new cities because the available means of transport produce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases through the transportation of people and goods. The establishment of a sustainable urban mobility system certainly requires the development of a plan, which needs integrated planning through the agreement of stakeholders, investors and planners, and through the citizens’ participation in the plan by selecting the necessary measures, and integrating monitoring and evaluation into the planning process cycle. The protocols and assessment methods are essential for cities to deploy because they provide the means to properly evaluate the sustainability of urban development and provide a more rational basis for decisions affecting the future of towns and cities [ ].
Determining the sustainability of current urban mobility by using sustainable mobility indicators such as accessibility, affordability, quality of public areas, safety during travel, intermodal connections, percentage of air pollution from the transportation system, functional diversity of land use, congestion and delay, and greenhouse gas emissions, and comfort and pleasure while using different modes of transport helps improve urban mobility.
