Abstract


In the present study 60 infants and children suffering from persistent or recurrent chest wheezes were investigated for the presence of GER after exclusion of other causes of persistent or
recurrent chest wheezes (Cardiac, F.B., T.B., etc.).

All cases were subjected to :

!)Full history taking with special stress on the respiratory complaint and associated reflux symptoms.



2) Thorough clinical examination including growth assessment, general, cardiac and chest examination.



3) Special investigations to prove the presence of GER, these tests included upper gastro-esophageal endoscopy, histologic examination of esophageal biopsy and ultrasonography.



In the present study both endoscopy and histopathology were used to diagnose GER and the results were compared to these of sonography.
