Relationship Between Follow-Up Care and Quality of Life among Renal Transplant Recipients, Urology and Nephrology Center at Mansoura
Hanan Ali Ibrahim El-Manzlawy;
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the follow-up care and the quality of life in renal transplant recipients.
Roy's Adaptation Model of Nursing constituted the theoretical framework for this study. Three research questions were formulated:
Results of the study documented that some of the follow-up care is given routinely for all recipients while others are given according to recipient's need and/or doctor's request. Most recipients reported that they did not receive sufficient instructions about rejection, infection, exercises and complications. QOL of recipients was observed to improve over time. There was a significant difference among the 3 visits (baseline visit, after 2 months and after 4 months) in overall SIP dimensions (p<0.001 ). A significant difference existed in relation to number of siblings before and after transplantation (P<0.05). There was a significant relationship between SIP mean scores and side effects of immunosuppressants in the form of hair problems, hearing problems, bone aches and psychological problems.
In conclusion, quality of life among renal transplant recipients is
determined by problems detected during the follow up period.
