Fractional carbon dioxide laser, platelet –rich plasma and narrow band ultraviolet B in the treatment of Vitiligo (A prospective randomized comparative trial)
Mohamed Abdullah Eshafi;
Abstract
itiligo is a serious cosmetic condition, mainly for individuals with dark skin. Since no particular therapy demonstrated its absolute superiority over others, various treatments are currently used to improve this skin disease. Comparison of various therapies used in vitiligo is necessary to guide the choice of physicians in the management of the disease.
In the current study we aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of Fr: CO2 laser, PRP, combined Fr: CO2 laser and PRP, combined Fr: CO2 laser and NB-UVB, combined Fr: CO2 laser, PRP and NB-UVB in the treatment of vitiligo as well as reporting the side effects. We included 20 vitiligo patients with at least 6 patches of stable vitiligo
(120 patches), the patches were divided into six groups according to the treatment modality.
Our study revealed best response with the highest significant statistical difference with treatment by PRP, CO2 laser & PRP, CO2 laser & NB-UVB and triple therapy. Monotherapy with CO2 laser had less significant response compared to the above treatments. Moreover, comparison of surface area reduction in different treatment groups with control group revealed that the triple therapy group had the highest significant difference followed by CO2 with PRP group, CO2 with NB-UVB group and PRP group while the CO2 laser group had the least significant difference compared to other groups.
