Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to compare physico- chemical properties of two varieties papaya and avocado fruits (Blue stem variety) of Summer (PS) and Winter (WS) of papaya as well as (Duke, Summer variety, ASD) and (Fuerte, Winter variety, AWF) of avocado fruits. Two solvents were applied for extracting bioactive compounds from papaya and avocado (80% methanol and 0.5 N acidified methanol). Besides, restrain the antioxidant activity as well as determine total poly phenol and total flavonoid contents and identify them by using HPLC in papaya and avocado by-products. The radical scavenging activity was determined by DPPH assay. Fatty acid methyl esters of papaya seed's oil and avocado pulp's oil were fractionated and identified by using GC. Fractionation of vitamins (A, B complex, C, D, E, and K) in papaya pulps and seeds as well as avocado pulps for two varieties were also determined. Potential cytotoxicity by Sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay of crude powder extract that could be adopted in a clinical setting for the management of breast (MCF7) and lung (H1299) cancers was experimented to insure the potential involvement of oxidative stress. The potential utilization of papaya and avocado by-products (seeds and peels) as sources of bioactive compounds were tried out in the form of avocado and papaya jams.
