Organizational Support and Leader- Member Exchange as perceived by staff Nurses

Abstract


Leaders and subordinates are seen to be agents of organization and since there is a relation between them and their interaction lead to more organization outcomes. The higher the level of leader member exchange is, the higher the employees perceptions of organizational help and support are. The current study aimed at assessing organizational support as perceived by staff nurses, assessing leader- member exchange level as perceived by staff nurses and finding out the relationship between organizational support and leader- member exchange nurses as perceived by staff nurses.
A descriptive correlational research design was used to carry out this study. This study was conducted at Menoufia University Specialized Hospital. Two hundred and nineteen staff nurses were included in the study. Two data collection tools were used to carry out this study namely; perceived organizational support survey which consists of (12) statements and leader -member exchange questionnaire which contain four dimensions (affect, loyalty, contribution, professional respect) with total (39) statements .
The present study revealed the following main results:
• Majority of staff nurses had low perception level toward organizational support.
• Majority of nurses had low perception level toward affect dimension.
