"Comparing The Effect of Chicken Eggshell Powder Solution, 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish And 5% Sodium Fluoride containing Tricalcium Phosphate Varnish On Early Enamel Carious Lesion In Permanent Teeth: An In Vitro Study"

Abstract

Over the last decade’s minimal invasive dentistry (MID) has gained the interest of national and international research. One of its important principles is remineralization of enamel to arrest or reverse the initial enamel carious lesion (IECL).This was improved by a full understanding of the caries process (balanced dynamic process between demineralization and remineralization).
Fluoride is still considered the cornerstone in enamel remineralization. It is used extensively worldwide especially in young age, this lead to increased prevalence in dental fluorosis. In spite of that world health organization (WHO) reported that caries is still affecting 60-90 % of school aged children. So many dental investigations were applied on the remineralizing effect of non-fluoride and natural agents to find a more effective and safer alternative agent.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the remineralization effect of a natural agent (CESP) and compare it to the remineralizing effect of sodium fluoride varnish and a tricalcium phosphate containing toothpaste.
A total of forty teeth were selected and grouped. Each group comprised 20 specimen which was randomly divide into 10 specimen for MH testing and 10 specimen for SEM-EDX, all specimen placed in demineralizing solution for 96 hours at room temperature to produce artificial enamel caries lesion.
After demineralization, different remineralizing agents were applied, and then finally teeth were examined by MH and SEM-EDX to assess the effect of the remineralizing agents used.
The results of the present study showed a significant increase in MH values for all groups treated with different remineralizing solutions compared to the demineralization group. Group CESP and clinpro showed the highest values of MH followed by Naf group.
