The Effect Of Silver Diamine Fluoride On Bond Strength Of Universal Adhesive To Demineralized Dentin

Abstract

As there is an increasing use of SDF for management of dental caries, the deep cavities may have been treated by SDF solutions before placement of the restoration. Adhesive restorations must be securely bonded to a tooth pre-treated with 38% SDF. Consequently, this study was conducted to evaluate the influence of SDF application to sound and demineralized dentin on microtensile bond strength of universal adhesive bonding in etch and rinse mode.

In total, 40 sound molars were prepared and molded then half of samples were immersed into lab made demineralizing solution to create dentin demineralization. All samples are divided into four groups according to dentin state of demineralization and surface treatment using SDF (20 specimen / group). Group 1: Sound dentin without SDF, Group 2: Demineralized dentin without SDF, Group 3: Sound dentin treated with SDF, Group 4: Demineralized dentin treated with SDF. SDF was applied on the occlusal surface followed by universal adhesive application in total etch mode then composite disc preparation with 4 mm thickness. Microtensile bond strength was measured using Universal testing machine. Means and Standard deviation for each group were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS statistical analysis program for Windows (version 21.0). Statistical analysis was performed using Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at P ≤ 0.05 and One-Way ANOVA/ Turkey’s HSD post hoc test.

Results revealed that Group 1 and Group 3 have highest microtensile bond strength values to dentin with no statistically

significant difference between them. Group 1 has highest microtensile bond strength values to dentin than Group 2.
