BLOOD LEAD LEVEL IN PRETERM AND FULL-TERM DELIVERING WOMEN AND THEIR NEONATES

Abstract


This work was carried out on 100 pregnant women who were categorized into two groups:
l) Full-term pregnant w°-men (> 37 weeks).

2) Pre-term pregnant women(< 37 weeks).


The studied groups were subjected to:

1) Complete history taking including age, gestational age, parity, residence, occupation, active or passive smoking . Alcohol consumption, use of black eye make-up (Kho}),
... etc.

2) Clinical examination including pulse, temperature, blood
'
• pressure, fundal level, .... etc.

3) Apgar score was done for the neonates by the obstetric - staff.
4) Complete blood picture.

5) Serum iron, TIBC, ferritin and serum calcium,

6) Whole blood lead level.

The results of the study can be summarized in_ the following:


• A significant difference (P<0.05) between maternal and neonatal cord blood lead level in pre-term and fult-term
groups .
